GaleréVR, 2019

Museums and galleries have been around us for a long time, representing the history and culture of both specific regions and the concepts that connect us globally. They are one of the main facilities with a purpose of education and preservation of art, history and culture.

With this project, our aim is to consider the problem of limited access of some people to museums and galleries and create a solution through an immersive virtual environment where these obstacles can be circumnavigated. As such, we decided to create a gallery space that exists purely in the digital world. With the access to the internet, a user is able to visit museums around the globe and have a full experience of art and culture, from whichever country they imagine.

An art gallery based in the virtual world will also increase the opportunities for artists to exhibit and display their work, especially digital media that cannot be translated into a physical space. This immersive environment allows for digital art such as 3D models to be displayed and experienced however the artist wants without the limitation of translating the pieces into the real world.

GaleréVR is an online art space + digital residency. We are founded by a collective of artists who have created this art space + residency program to provide technology based artists the opportunity to exhibit work in an environment most familiar to them. The space is an opportunity for new forms of art production and consumption as it calls for innovative works that do not translate in physical spaces.
