The Amazing Sirtet!, 2019

In communication with the original Tetris, which was created in the USSR as a glorification of Communist Russian ideals, The Amazing Sirtet! uses pay-to-win mechanics to criticize contemporary late stage capitalist practices prevelant in the video games industry. The game is a flipped version of the original, with pieces moving bottom to top. As rows are completed, they shift downwards, squeazing the player into a claustrophobic space that can only be alleviated with upgrades purchased with quarters. The piece serves to mock practices that are designed to manipulate video game consumers into increased spending and points out general grievances the artists have with the capitalist system at large. It explores the myth of upwards mobility, trickle down economics, and manipulative advertising.
